Back by Popular Demand

Hello? Hello, anyone there?? Do 3 people count as popular demand?

I've made some things and thought I would share.

Clarabel is signed up for ballet. It is a huge commitment for a 4 year old. The class runs from September to June and blue eyeshadow is required for the recital. I have a moral objection to blue eyeshadow, especially on a little girl and I can't wait for recital time to see if I am the only mother refusing to make up her daugther like a pageant hopeful.

None the less she is signed up and raring to go. I stitched up a little bag for her to carry her shoes and such to class.

It is even reversible.

Obviously, I had no control over the fabric. It's not what I would have chosen but I am not 4 nor even a little bit inclined to be a ballerina, so whada I know?
Notice the little white label on the handle. As Clarabel is starting school this year, we've been labeling everything. If you are in the market for labels of any kind, check out Mabel's Labels.

I have also been knitting.

I knit up Amanda's Squatty Sidekick for Clarabel from the yarn we kool-aid dyed last summer. I have enough left to make her a a pair of mitts. And enough yarn of a different color to make Laila a matching bag and mitts.

I was stuck this summer with a fair bit of free time with nothing to knit and a hankering for some fancy yarn, so I headed to the LYS to spend my allowance.
Some Handmaiden caught my eye and I've been knitting up Lake of the Woods.

It is a capelet. Not sure if I need a capelet but it is a quick and fun knit.
I am almost done and the best part is that there is no seams to sew up!!

Hello hello!! I have been by so many times and you had seemly vanished.....so glad your back!

I love the little felt bag. Everything is great!

My middle daughter did ballet when she was 4 years old. After paying for the yellow tutu she decided she didn't want to do ballet class anymore. WHAT!? You can imagine my distress considering the damn tutu cost $50. So I conned her into finishing the class by tying jingle bells to her ballet shoes. Worked like a charm...she want to make them jingle.

Then I forgot to take them off for the recital and the curtain was down, lights were down and all you can hear as they are getting into position behind the curtain is her bells. I saved them. Too funny.

She is basketball player now.....one year and that was it for ballet.

Hey, you're back! So happy to hear from you again.

When my older son was four, he wanted to take dance class, so I signed him up. He was the only boy in a class of about 30 little ballerinas, and he loved it! He wore a white shirt and a top hat and bowtie. One day, one of the little girls at his school saw him in his dance shoes and said with disdain, "Boys don't dance!", and her brilliant mother responded, without missing a beat, "Of course they do! Who do you think girls dance with?" I could have kissed her.

He's 11 now and wouldn't be caught dead dancing, but I'll always have fond memories of watching him up on the stage, one little drake among all the swans.

can't wait for dance class, gynastics and the rest of the girly things that go along with it.
great bag, way to pick up the machene & sew it up again! Less stressful without canvas interfacing! I think you should post a follow-up blog about the weekender, as it is beautiful.
handmaiden & felted bag are lovely-i'm inspired!

Welcome back! Cute stuff! The eye-makeup "requirement" is ridiculous, I'd have problems with this too - aren't they beautiful enough without it??

Great sewing and knitting! And, yes, it is lovely to have you back. The Handmaiden yarn is to die for!

Eye shadow on little girls is wrong, wrong, wrong. What is this world coming to? Good on you for bucking the system.

Hello! I love both the little bags! Lily loves bags too ... she's totally into filling them with her things.

Thanks for the label link! We need to label everything for school too and I haven't been able to find a decent place for labels.

How is Clarabel enjoying school?

Welcome back! I've been keeping an eye out for you all these months and was so excited to see new posts today. So happy you've come up for air and with such great projects to show.

My 4 year old is in her second round of ballet (at a local drop-in center - I'm not paying the big bucks until we see if she'll commit). Round 1 was pretty much a bust (until I started using some small-scale bribery) but she seems to be loving it this time. It's incredible what a difference 6 months make at this age. And when did 4 become the new 13? Gah. I'm with you on the eyeshadow - revolt revolt revolt!
