Fun Times Chez Nous
Merry isn't really the word I would use this morning. It's 8:30 am, I've been up for an hour and we've already had a repair man here. Also it is pouring rain.
We celebrated Christmas with Ken's family on Friday night. It was great fun, great food and great presents. Ken's mom is very practical (which I love) and the kids each got a new outfit, a package of books and a new toy. I got a little yarn fund and some paper cutters for scrapbooking. Ken got a shredder, in fact all the boys got a shredder. This year's theme was shredding out identity theft. (Ken also got a pair of snowshoes from your truly. I'll get a picture of him in action for you) It was a late night though and it was midnight before Ken and I were asleep. We were a little tired yesterday and hoped for a early bedtime.
Yesterday Ken smelled gas coming from the hot water tank, we called for service and they advised that we turn the gas to the hot water tank. Ok but yikes, no hot water! There was enough left that I could fill the tub and we could all have a soak, you know like in the olden days!
Dinner happened in a regular fashion and we put Clarabel to bed at 6:30. She was miserable and would probably fallen asleep at 5. Ken and I settled in watch Elf and enjoy a pot of tea and a little baking. Laila usually falls asleep around 10:30. (I know it is insanely late and combined with Clarabel being up at 6am, it is the source of all our exhaustion)
Around 9, Laila starts to throw up. She throws up on the carpet, on herself. We get her all cleaned up. Remember that part about no hot water, it's starts to become pretty important. She is obviously feeling pretty lousy and sits with her dad pretty quietly instead of tearing around the room hooting and hollering like she usually does. I nursed her at 9:30ish, she pukes again. This time on the couch, on Ken, on herself. I am starting to get hysterical. Again NO HOT WATER and my 8 month old is covered in puke.
I called Telehealth. Which frankly is one of the very best inventions ever, every time I need it I am so thankful that they are there. The wonderful nurse gave me the rundown and I felt much more confident to have a plan.
I nursed Laila again but just a little, she puked. Third wardrobe change and cold sponge bath. She fell asleep shortly after. Phew! She was up in the night to eat and didn't throw up and she is still asleep now, despite the dog loosing his mind over the repair man arriving.
I dragged my hind quarters out of bed at 7am b/c Clarabel was hungry, letting Ken sleep b/c we are driving tonight to my parents. As I was boiling water to wash the dishes, the repair man called not shortly after to say he was on the way. I nearly cried with relief. He sorted us out and has fired up the hot water tank. Best Christmas present yet!! Be not alarmed at the service guy being here at 8 am on Dec. 23rd, we have a service contract so it didn't cost us anything. Phew, again!
So I think we are back up to full speed, despite a few extra loads of laundry and still being dead tired. Today we are heading to Ken's parents for a tasty Christmas lunch and packing up to go to my parents. Very much looking forward to the extra adults that will be around and the napping I will do. I am bringing only my Kauni, so I hope to have some good progress when I get home.
A very Merry Merry and Happy Happy to everyone! Have a safe and healthy holiday season.
Do check out JibJab if you need to send a little something to someone via email. My sister did the snowball fight one and it craked us up!

Merry Xmas!
That sort of night is awful. Just awful. I feel for you. I hope Laila is better, and that you can all get some sleep tonight.
Poor Laila. I hope she feels better right quick. Ethan has a nasty cold ... and I have pink eye. Merry Ho ho. LOL
Merry Christmas and all the best in 2008!
Merry Christmas! My kids were trading the flu around this last week. The gift that keeps on giving...
I hope you have a great Christmas and that everyone is healthy and happy.
I am glad you got the hot water on!! Hope there is no more sickness for you guys!
Happy Holidays!
ah yes - this is what we used to call "the joys of parenting". The good news: they grow up, leave home and you can nap, they can clean themselves up, and they'll bring you grandchildren, after whom THEY have to clean! But truly, dearling, take advantage of the arms of your extended family and DO nap. In fact, see if you and Daddy can have an hour's curl-up-and-sleep at the same time. Very restorative, cuddle-sleeps. And I hope you're keeping a record of your blog - you'll laugh and laugh over this when the girls are teenagers.
Yikes, a vomitorious holiday indeed! and the no hot water thing really puts a damper on clean-up, clearly...gross. Oh I really, really hope you got a nap in at your parents, a good, uninterupted nap!
Happy Holidays Kristin!
